'When we think we know we cease to learn' — thus said the great educationist and philosopher, Dr Radhakrishnan (1888 – 1975), whose birthday is commemorated as Teacher's Day throughout the country. He believed that the '. . . basis of educational theory is psychology', and with a keen insight into the minds of students, developed a rapport with them that was unique.
Dr Radhakrishnan's contribution towards teaching Philosophy included:
- Constructive comparison between Indian and Western thoughts and religions
- Inter-disciplinary approach by drawing examples and parallels from other subjects
- Reconciliation of the past and present by forming links between ancient and contemporary personalities
It is time we imbibe his values, philosophy, and imbibe his teachings in our daily interactions.
